Any tips or ideas for making an edible fruit arrangement for an office Christmas Party?

Q. I've decided to cut some of the fruit into shapes like stars, circles, etc. Some fruit may be dipped/drizzled with chocolate, nuts, etc. Are there any tips or tricks anyone may know of for keeping the fruit fresh while preparing the arrangement? I plan on cutting the fruit on a Sunday night, and preparing the arrangement the following evening. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Thanks so much, y'all! All of your answers are very helpful so far! =)

A. fun fun fun-

check out this site for arranging ideas
http://www.ediblearrangements.com/

Definitely listen to the dude with the lemon juice comment- not neccesary for all types of fruit, but definitely for apples. If you use any banana, thats the stuff to chocolate cover- cuz otherwise the banana will start to look funky (lemon juice trick doesn't work very good w/ banana)

Stick to fruit that holds up (cantelope, apple, pineapple, strawberries, grapes)

Good luck

Any tips for driving to Texas from Minnesota with a 10 month old baby?
Q. My daughter (who will be 10 months old when we go) and I are going with my parents to Texas from MN. Any tips for making the long car ride easier for her? She usually does good in cars, I'm just worried she will get bored fast.

A. Little books that make noises, lots of snacks and juice, several toys next to her seat so she can grab as she pleases, and a portable dvd player with some good kids movies. Best of luck hun!!

What are some basic tips to give to kids about staying healthy?
Q. I'm trying to teach my 6 year old nephew how to stay healthy. I need tips from eating right, to being active and maintaining hygiene. Any health tips you expect a 6 yr old kid to understand.

A. You should tell them to eat lots of smaller meals and to eat slowly so that their bodies are more able to recognize when they are full. Also its important to drink lots of water and fruit juice rather than soda. Try and encourage him to stay away from junk food and eat fruit or something healthy when he wants a snack. Also teach him to be active, that playing sports and running around is good for you as well as fun. Also teach him the basics of hygiene like showering daily and brushing his teeth 3 times a day. Try and make it all fun for him though, as kids respond more to things that they find enjoyable.

Anyone have any tips on preparing great beef jerky?
Q. Just purchased the Excalibur nine tray food dehydrator a week ago and would love to get some tips on the best way to prepare foods and great recipes! Food will be coming from the store, not the backcountry. Thanks!

A. Here is a mouth watering recipe that will have everyone wanting more.

1 small bottle Grandma's Molasses.
1 large bottle kikomans Terriaki sauce
2 heaping spoons brown sugar.
1 tiny bottle liquid smoke.

Warm up the liquids to ease the mixing. Stir until the brown sugar and molasses are disolved.

Next take a rump roast or a flank steak and slice thin with the grain of the meat. This is key because if you cut across the grain, it will crumble and not release the flavor when eaten. Each slice should be about 1/8" to 1/4" thick. Cut the fat sections out and put the meat into the marinade. Let it set for 10-15 minutes and then trun the meat so the top is now on the botton and wait another 15 min.

Lay the slabs on the trays (over a sink to ease mess) and very course grind pepper over the wet meat. After it finishes dripping, put them in the dehydrator and dry. Check every couple hours and as it dries to make sure of the consistency. You can tell how done it is by the squishiness. It should be firm to the touch. At this point, flip it and brush on more marinade and leave small puddles on the meat. When this dries, your meat should be done. The key is to not overcook it. Rock hard is not good. Chewy is best.

If you do accidently cook it too long, don't fret. You can drop it back in the marinade and let it soak up the juice and redry it to the right levels.

After it is done, brush off the large pieces of pepper.

I usually make one tray with no pepper for the weaker tongued people. The pepper doesn't make it that spicy but some people are really wimpy. :-)

Trust me... You will have everyone clamoring for more if you cook it like this.

Does anyone have any helpful and useful tips as to getting out sweat stains and oders?
Q. I would also like to read about any tricks or tips for hinding sweaty armpits while in public. It's hard for me at times, because when I'm out in public I have to keep my arms down at all times, and what's worse is that I sweat on my back too. So I don't know if there is a special deordrant out there, or wearing another shirt or are there certain colors I should ware and certain colors I shouldn't ware. Please provide me with any useful infromation that doesn't cost and arm and a leg, and only serious repsonse only please. Thanks in advance.

A. There is a couple of different treatments to try.

1. a Product called Zout located in the laundry aile, works great on any stains on all colored clothing.

2. Pure lemon juice added to the rinse cycle helps eliminate ordors.

3. Rubbing a half of a lemon on armpits of clothes before washing helps remove stains and odor.

As for deordrants:

1. Aloe and Green tea by Watkins is wonderful I changed to this after years of using Dagree

2. Dagree

3. Any product with zinc in it will help block sweat glands naturally.

Tips on cooking already pre-cooked frozen buffalo wings?
Q. You know, the ones that come in a box by TGI Fridays. Every time I cook them they don't taste very well. I follow the directions and such but can never seem to get them just right.

Anyone have any tips on different ways to cook them or any tips on seasonings or anything? Any tips in general?

Thanks.

A. Oh yes, I do know the ones that you are talking about and have tasted that "blandness" no matter which flavor I pick! I did this test once and it worked for me. I set the oven temperature lower than what the box had suggested. I usually add about 15 minutes to the time and lowered my oven temp by 20 degrees. Remember, these are fully cooked anyways but the freezing process takes away alot of the flavor and you just need to revitalize it. With a lower oven temperature, you can toss these wings with some melted butter, just to get the juices flowing again, then I drizzle some EVOO, dust them with some seasonings, whatever you prefer and toss them in a bowl to fully cover the wings. Then, I put them onto a pan and cover them with tinfoil for the first 1/2 of the cooking time. Then, I take the foil off for the second half of the cooking time so they crispen up a bit. Although I think fresh is best, I hope this helps you to enjoy them!!!!! Good luck!

How do i get manic panic blue black dye out of my hair without bleaching or redying? Any tips?

Q. My hair is originally dark brown and that is the color i put the dye on.

I dont want to bleach it beacause of the damage and i know that waching it helps but im looking more for little tips like use lemon juice or something (does that work)?

A. If you have just dyed it then you can wash it, or do a hot oil treatment. But after the first 24hours try lemon juice, or vinegar and let it sit in your hair for 10 minutes then wash it out. Check out this site for more details: http://www.essortment.com/lifestyle/removingsemipe_sjhn.htm

Does anyone have make up tips for the very financially strapped woman?
Q. I am looking for tips on make up that is good and very reasonably priced. I am 27 years old, with brown eyes and brown hair, if that info is necessary.

A. I am financially tight too, and cosmetics tend to be outrageously expensive (!) so I buy alot of cosmetics on eBay. You can find them MUCH cheaper there, even the pricey brands. And sometimes you can find lots of items, like multiple bottles of foundation for a good price, or the like. I stock up this way, since money is tight and this is more economical.

www.eyeslipsface.com has all kinds of cosmetics at remarkably good prices - $1 apiece. It's like a cosmetics dollar store. I haven't used their stuff yet, but at that price, when the budget is extremely tight, it would be worth a try.

I have found www.makeupalley.com helpful as far as rating what cosmetics are the best buy...they provide detailed ratings/reviews on tons of cosmetics, about both how good they are and their price. They also list some very cheap natural substitutes for cosmetic skin care...some of which, according to the rave reviews of other ordinary people like me, work extremely well. (I've tried some of them and regularly use one such item - lemon juice mixed with water instead of the pricey hydroxy-acid skin regenerating/cell turnover cosmetics....for my skin-beginning-to-age at 30!!) You can also ask questions on their boards, like the one you asked here, and get some answers from people who love to try and talk about makeup.

Also I've looked up on google "discount cosmetics" and "cheap cosmetics" and searches like that and found some websites where you can buy cosmetics very inexpensively...you might want to try this.

One thing I will recommend that is fairly inexpensive is L'Oreal Voluminous mascara. That's one of the best drugstore mascaras and I think it's about $5.99.

Hope this helps you!!

How to clear up acne without buying prescription medications?
Q. Im trying to remedy a little acne on my face and mainly on my back without having to spend loads of money on medications. I'm looking for good home remedy tips like lemon juice, etc. Thanks!

A. ALOE VERA! Honestly, aloe vera is amazing! I've only been using it for a couple of days now and I can see results! I currently am on an all natural skin routine and after I cleanse my skin with Bellaboo facewash, I let it dry an put freshly cut aloe from the plant right onto my face. The plants aren't expensive at all and it's really easy to use. It's safe and is one of the best remedies for acne. If you don't see results right away, don't worry! By a month you should really be amazed. Hope this helps! I've also tried honey and cinnamon as a face mask... it makes my skin feel soooooo soft.

Can someone give me some tips to help prepare for highschool football?
Q. Im 15, 6' 0", 245 pounds (mostly fat) and i need some tips about getting in shape (eating right, how much to lift ect. ) I'd like to play Defensive linemen, but if there is a better choice plz let me know. If you can contribute any other helpful tips dont be shy.

A. yup your fat - and you have to lose that fat and turn it into muscle - my son made that tranformation and went on to play division 1AA football in college -
so here is my advice -
first and foremost - its all you - you have to have the desire and the will to get better -
start this way and start right now -
1- change your diet - get some advice on a balanced diet - that will help you lose weight and is best for your body - go to your doc for advice on this -
but in its simplest form - stay away from fats -
try this -
breakfast - cereal with milk - no sugar, 8 oz orange juice
lunch - ham and cheese sandwich - 8 oz skim or 1% milk - no mayo on the sandwich
dinner - a reasonble helping of meat (3-4 oz) all the green vegies you want, and a source of carbs - potatoe or rice and NO BUTTER!!!! - a glass of skim or 1% milk -
NO McDonalds etc............ diet soda only if you're gonna drink soda!!

now the exercise -
work yourself up to a 1-2 mile run every day (my son ran from the house to the gym 2 miles every day and back)

if you can afford it - join a gym - and get a weight lifting regimen made up for you by the trainer at the gym - upper body one day - lower body the next -

don't give up - and don't quit -

and always remember - football is 95% desire and 5% skill - the guy that wants it the most is going to succeed

as far as position - you are built for D or O line - if you get the weight down you could even develop into a linebacker depending on your speed -
if you continue to grow (height) and build strength your coach will move you into positions you are best suited for -

by the time you are entering your senior year you should be able to bench press at least 300 lbs if you work hard -

Good luck!

Good luck

Good luck!
